If your simply going to shoot normal arrows, at higher difficulty, Zombies are sponges.īeing swarmed by Zombies, the bow is useless. Exploding arrows alert Virals and flame can be dangerous in the wrong place. I agree to an extent, I bring along a bow when playing, though bows can be somewhat useless in Nightmare Mode. Not like the game is a MMO or something, but once you own the DLC, its hard not to just craft yourself that bow and go to town. I kinda think they need to balance the Ranger Bow, but its whatever. Like, if I start a new character on one of the harder difficulties, the bow is what I'm using for most of the game. The next best is a DLC weapon called the Volatile Hunter. Only one though, in story it askes you to go to bolter feeding grounds at night. It’s brilliant design esp cuz the game rarely forces you to play at night. Not just by overall stats, but the actual benefit they have and the overall fun factor. Recently found Stamina regeneration on quick attack weapon also which is an absolute beast against. It doesn't require you to actually own a bow to craft it, once you have enough materials you can just craft it really early on and just steam roll through the entire Slums part of the game with it. Not to the prepatch HP but maybe like 50 to 100 more HP instead of this gamebreaking 1000 HP. The Ranger Bow in the DLC is a kinda broken OP for most of the game. Before this patch just 3 shots from my crossbow can kill a volatile now they dont seem to be taking any damage at all. Like, if you craft the Ranger Bow, early on you feel like a total badass head-shoting everything that moves silent arrow. Bows have the ability to swap arrow tips for different situations and you can even reclaim your arrows from the bodies of your kills. What is the object of this treatment It depends, no doubt, on the fact that so long as the patient is able to walk about he is in no danger of dying. Unlike firearms, bows also offer ranged damage but can be used anywhere without alerting more zombies. I would assume weapons like Volatile Hunter Baton (which is a paid DLC) could do the job rather nicely so long as you crafted it with a gold tier pickaxe since. We should be able to dodge them.I think the Bow's are the best weapons in the game. You are forced to tank their hits, which I think is stupid. Because you can't even dodge their attacks no matter how hard you try. Killing Volatiles with ranged weapons, particularly shotguns and explosives, isn't all that hard, but melee fighting a Volatile is just stupid. ![]() If you absolutely want to kill a Volatile with melee, your best bet is to have a very strong weapon, and tank all of the hits while hitting the Volatile, and hope it dies before you do. ![]() What often ends up happening is, even if you Matrix the hell out of the fight and dodge every attack, you will still get hit as their tackle and jump attack hitboxes are horribly broken and will often hit you even if you appear to have dodged the attack. The Volatile Hunter Baton is one of the best weapons in the game due to being craftable off of a Pickaxe, a 2 handed weapon, yet is a 1 handed weapon. Thusly its based on the base damage of the used weapon. However, trying to fight a Volatile head on with a melee weapon is very unpleasant. Volatile Hunter gear is a mod off of a weapon, not a weapon on its own. And there is a picture on the store page of 2 players fighting Volatiles. The game seems to encourage you to run from them, but despite that, there is an achievement for killing a Volatile, and some bounties for doing it too. ![]()
